Life in the UK comes with its own pressures
Building a life far from home brings opportunity — and challenges that aren't always easy to talk about. Family expectations from back home. A demanding job. Raising children between two cultures. A relationship under strain. Feeling alone in a new city.
Mantraminds offers a calm, confidential space to talk it through with someone who understands — without having to explain your culture first.
Supporting Indian families across the UK
The UK has one of the largest and longest-established Indian communities outside India. Some families settled in Leicester, Birmingham or London boroughs such as Harrow, Brent and Ealing decades ago. Others arrived recently as doctors, nurses, engineers and students.
What people in the UK often talk to us about:
- long NHS shifts or demanding roles in finance and tech, alongside family responsibilities;
- visa timelines (Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker or Graduate visas) shaping career and family decisions;
- questions of identity, marriage and expectations between parents and UK-born children;
- caring for ageing parents in India, or bringing them over;
- university life, part-time work and the cost of living for students.
Times that can feel heavier: Diwali, Navratri and family weddings can bring joy and pressure in equal measure, and the long, dark winter months are harder for many people.

Important information
About our counsellors. Mantraminds is based in India, and we hope to support people wherever they live. Our Well-being Counsellors are qualified and experienced in India, and some hold Indian registrations. Overseas qualifications and registrations do not give anyone registration to practise in the UK. Our counsellors are not registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or the General Medical Council (GMC). When they work with clients in the UK, they act only as Well-being Counsellors, not as psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists or medical practitioners.
What this service doesn't provide. Our service is not a UK psychology, psychiatry or medical service. It doesn't provide:
- medical, psychiatric or psychological diagnosis, or diagnostic assessment;
- treatment of any mental health condition;
- prescribing, or advice on starting, stopping or changing medication;
- medical certificates, reports, letters or certificates for legal, insurance, employment, immigration or court purposes;
- emergency or crisis care.
When to seek care in the UK. If you have a diagnosed or suspected mental health condition, symptoms that are significant or getting worse, need medication or medical advice, or are already receiving mental health treatment, please seek or continue care with your GP, NHS Talking Therapies or another UK-registered health professional. If your counsellor thinks you need clinical care, they will tell you and suggest local services.
Claims and reimbursement. Sessions can't be claimed through the NHS, private medical insurance, health cash plans or employer schemes, and may not qualify for workplace, employer or EAP reimbursement. Please check with your employer before booking.
Your choice. Registered local services are available to you. By booking, you confirm you've chosen an India-based, non-clinical service instead, knowing the points above. Because our counsellors aren't registered locally, the HCPC or GMC can't take complaints about them. Please bring any concern to us at contact@mantraminds.com.
In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E. You can also contact Samaritans on 116 123.
This doesn't affect your rights under UK consumer law.
Frequently asked questions
What is Mantraminds?
Mantraminds is an India-based mental well-being service. It offers online, non-clinical well-being counselling for adults in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, in 23 countries outside India, including the UK.
How much does online counselling with Mantraminds cost in the UK?
£30 per 50-minute session, paid one session at a time. Book at least one day ahead. There are no packages or lock-in.
Can I talk to a counsellor in Hindi from the UK?
Yes. Sessions are offered in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, depending on counsellor availability. Tell us your preferred language when you sign up and we'll match you with a counsellor who speaks it, where we can.
What time are sessions in the UK?
Sessions run during India daytime hours, within each counsellor's own availability. For example, a 6:00 PM India-time session is at 1:30 PM in London in July and 12:30 PM in January, as clocks change. Your booking page shows every time in your local time. We're not a 24/7 service.
Where can I get free mental health support in the UK?
Samaritans: call 116 123 (free, 24/7). In an emergency, call 999. For ongoing care, you can speak to your GP. Our local support page lists more free services.
Is this therapy?
No. Mantraminds provides well-being counselling — support with stress, relationships, parenting and life changes. It isn't diagnosis or treatment of a mental health condition. For that, please see your GP.
Are your counsellors HCPC-registered?
No. Our counsellors are postgraduate-qualified in psychology in India and provide a non-clinical well-being service. They aren't registered with the HCPC, use only their Indian titles and registrations (always shown with "(India)"), and don't offer clinical psychology services in the UK.
Do I have to be Indian to use Mantraminds?
Not at all. Our counsellors bring particular understanding of South Asian family life, but everyone is welcome.
Can I use Mantraminds through the NHS or my insurance?
No. All sessions are paid directly.
Where are your counsellors based?
In India. Sessions take place online by secure video during India daytime hours, shown in your local time. We're not a 24/7 service.
How will you contact me?
By email, which is our preferred way to communicate, or through the chat on this website. We also ask for your WhatsApp number when you sign up, and use it only if we need to reach you urgently, for example about your safety or a session that can't go ahead.
Can I book a session for today?
Usually not. Please book at least one day ahead (India time). Same-day sessions are offered only in exceptional cases, if a counsellor happens to be free. If you need support today, see the free services on our local support page. You pay when you book.
Do I have to commit to a set number of sessions?
No. You pay for one session at a time and can stop whenever you like.
What if I join late?
Your session still ends at its scheduled time. If you haven't joined within 15 minutes, it counts as a no-show and isn't refunded. If your counsellor is late, we'll make up the time or give you session credit.
How will the payment appear on my statement?
As MANTRAMINDS. You pay when you book. If you cancel in time, we refund the full amount to your card (your bank decides how quickly it shows). If anything looks wrong, email care@mantraminds.com and we'll sort it out.
Is my information safe?
Yes. Your information is stored securely in India and handled in line with our International Privacy Policy.
Do you offer psychiatry or medication?
No — not for clients outside India.
You don't have to figure it out alone.
