Life in South Korea

Life in South Korea can mean long working hours, a visa tied to your job or your studies, and getting by with limited Korean while your team, your landlord and your child's school mostly use Korean. Many people are building careers in IT, engineering or research in Seoul, Pangyo or Daejeon, studying for a postgraduate degree, or supporting a partner who moved for work, with family hours away. Finding familiar food, a festival celebrated the way you know it, or a friend who understands can take time, and it can feel lonelier than it looks.

Mantraminds offers a calm, confidential space to talk it through with someone who understands, without having to explain your culture first.

Supporting Indian families in South Korea

Indian professionals in South Korea often work in IT, engineering, research and business in and around Seoul, Pangyo and Daejeon, and many students come for postgraduate study and research. We offer a calm, private space to talk things through in English or an Indian language.

What people in South Korea often talk to us about:

  • Settling into Korean work culture, long hours and the language barrier;
  • Visa, contract and career decisions;
  • Relationships, and raising children between Indian and Korean cultures;
  • Postgraduate study, research pressure and homesickness;
  • Staying close to, and caring for, family in India.

Times that can feel heavier: Korea is 3½ hours ahead of India, so our India daytime sessions fall in your afternoon and evening.

  • No psychiatric consultations or medication
  • No sessions for under-18s (we support parents instead)
  • No crisis or emergency care

If our team feels you'd benefit from clinical care, we'll tell you honestly and help you find local services.

If you're in crisis or feel unsafe, please don't wait for a session:

Important information

About our counsellors. Mantraminds is based in India, and we hope to support people wherever they live. Our Well-being Counsellors are qualified and experienced in India, and some hold Indian registrations. Overseas qualifications and registrations do not give anyone registration to practise in South Korea. Our counsellors are not registered with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's mental health professional qualification (정신건강전문요원) or the Korean Psychological Association's certification system. When they work with clients in South Korea, they act only as Well-being Counsellors, not as psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists or medical practitioners.

What this service doesn't provide. Our service is not a Korean psychology, psychiatry or medical service. It doesn't provide:

  • medical, psychiatric or psychological diagnosis, or diagnostic assessment;
  • treatment of any mental health condition;
  • prescribing, or advice on starting, stopping or changing medication;
  • medical certificates, reports, letters or certificates for legal, insurance, employment, immigration or court purposes;
  • emergency or crisis care.

When to seek care in South Korea. If you have a diagnosed or suspected mental health condition, symptoms that are significant or getting worse, need medication or medical advice, or are already receiving mental health treatment, please seek or continue care with a doctor at a local clinic or a psychiatry clinic (정신건강의학과), or the Mental Health Welfare Centre (정신건강복지센터) in your area. If your counsellor thinks you need clinical care, they will tell you and suggest local services.

Claims and reimbursement. Sessions can't be claimed through National Health Insurance (국민건강보험), private indemnity insurance (실손보험), government counselling vouchers or employer assistance programmes (EAP), and may not qualify for workplace or employer reimbursement. Please check with your employer before booking.

Your choice. Local services are available to you. By booking, you confirm you've chosen an India-based, non-clinical service instead, knowing the points above. Because our counsellors aren't registered locally, local regulators can't take complaints about them. Please bring any concern to us at contact@mantraminds.com.

In an emergency, call 112 (police) or 119 (fire and ambulance) or go to the emergency room (응급실) of your nearest hospital. You can also contact Suicide Prevention Counselling Line (Ministry of Health and Welfare; in Korean) (call 109).

This doesn't affect your rights under Korean law, including your right to withdraw from a booking within 7 days of your booking confirmation, as long as the session hasn't started (Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce; see our International Cancellation & Refund Policy). Business information required by Korean law is on our legal disclosure page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Mantraminds?

Mantraminds is an India-based mental well-being service. It offers online, non-clinical well-being counselling for adults in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, in 23 countries outside India, including South Korea.

How much does online counselling with Mantraminds cost in South Korea?

₩55,000 per 50-minute session, paid one session at a time. Book at least one day ahead. There are no packages or lock-in.

Can I talk to a counsellor in Hindi from South Korea?

Yes. Sessions are offered in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, depending on counsellor availability. Tell us your preferred language when you sign up and we'll match you with a counsellor who speaks it, where we can.

What time are sessions in South Korea?

Sessions run during India daytime hours, within each counsellor's own availability. For example, a 1:30 PM India-time session is at 5:00 PM in Seoul. Your booking page shows every time in your local time. We're not a 24/7 service.

Where can I get free mental health support in South Korea?

Suicide Prevention Counselling Line (Ministry of Health and Welfare; in Korean): call 109 (24/7). In an emergency, call 112 (police) or 119 (fire and ambulance). For ongoing care, you can speak to a doctor at a local clinic or a psychiatry clinic (정신건강의학과), or the Mental Health Welfare Centre (정신건강복지센터) in your area. Our local support page lists more free services.

Is this therapy?

No. Mantraminds provides well-being counselling: support with everyday life challenges, relationships, parenting and change. It isn't diagnosis or treatment of a mental health condition. For that, please see a doctor at a local clinic or a psychiatry clinic (정신건강의학과), or the Mental Health Welfare Centre (정신건강복지센터) in your area.

Are your counsellors registered in South Korea?

No. Our counsellors are qualified in India and provide a non-clinical well-being service. They are not registered in South Korea, use only their Indian titles and registrations (always shown with "(India)"), and don't provide psychology or psychotherapy services.

Can I use National Health Insurance or my private insurance?

No. Our sessions are non-clinical well-being counselling provided from India, so they can't be claimed through National Health Insurance (국민건강보험), private indemnity insurance (실손보험) or government counselling vouchers. You pay the fee directly.

Can I have sessions in Korean?

Our counsellors work in English and Indian languages, not Korean. If you'd prefer to talk in Korean, a local service may suit you better, and our local support page lists some places to start.

Where are your counsellors based?

In India. Sessions take place online by secure video during India daytime hours, shown in your local time. We're not a 24/7 service.

How will you contact me?

By email, which is our preferred way to communicate, or through the chat on this website. We also ask for your WhatsApp number when you sign up, and use it only if we need to reach you urgently, for example about your safety or a session that can't go ahead.

Can I book a session for today?

Usually not. Please book at least one day ahead (India time). Same-day sessions are offered only in exceptional cases, if a counsellor happens to be free. If you need support today, see the free services on our local support page. You pay when you book.

Do I have to commit to a set number of sessions?

No. You pay for one session at a time and can stop whenever you like.

What if I join late?

Your session still ends at its scheduled time. If you haven't joined within 15 minutes, it counts as a no-show and isn't refunded. If your counsellor is late, we'll make up the time or give you session credit.

How will the payment appear on my statement?

As MANTRAMINDS. You pay when you book. If you cancel in time, we refund the full amount to your card (your bank decides how quickly it shows). If anything looks wrong, email care@mantraminds.com and we'll sort it out.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Your information is stored securely in India and handled in line with our International Privacy Policy.

Do you offer psychiatry or medication?

No, not for clients outside India.

You don't have to figure it out alone.

Talk to someone who understands your life here and where you come from.
