Life in Japan
Many Indian professionals in Japan work long hours in demanding roles, often far from family and in a language that isn't their own. Life in Tokyo or Yokohama can feel quietly isolating, and parents may be weighing Japanese, international or Indian schooling for their children. Finding someone who understands both worlds isn't always easy.
Mantraminds offers a calm, confidential space to talk it through with someone who understands, without having to explain your culture first.
Supporting Indian families in Japan
Most Indians in Japan are professionals in IT, engineering and finance. Communities have grown around Tokyo, especially Nishi-Kasai in Edogawa, as well as Yokohama and Kobe, where Indian merchant families have lived for generations.
What people in Japan often talk to us about:
- long working hours and unwritten workplace rules;
- getting by in Japanese in everyday life;
- choosing between Japanese and international schools for children;
- partners who feel isolated without work or a local network;
- the distance from family in India.
Times that can feel heavier: festivals like Diwali spent far from home, and year-end periods when Japanese workplaces are busiest.

Important information
About our counsellors. Mantraminds is based in India, and we hope to support people wherever they live. Our Well-being Counsellors are qualified and experienced in India, and some hold Indian registrations. Overseas qualifications and registrations do not give anyone registration to practise in Japan. Our counsellors are not registered with Japan's national register of Certified Public Psychologists (公認心理師). When they work with clients in Japan, they act only as Well-being Counsellors, not as psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists or medical practitioners.
What this service doesn't provide. Our service is not a Japanese psychology, psychiatry or medical service. It doesn't provide:
- medical, psychiatric or psychological diagnosis, or diagnostic assessment;
- treatment of any mental health condition;
- prescribing, or advice on starting, stopping or changing medication;
- medical certificates, reports, letters or certificates for legal, insurance, employment, immigration or court purposes;
- emergency or crisis care.
When to seek care in Japan. If you have a diagnosed or suspected mental health condition, symptoms that are significant or getting worse, need medication or medical advice, or are already receiving mental health treatment, please seek or continue care with a doctor at a psychiatry (精神科) or psychosomatic medicine (心療内科) clinic, or your local mental health and welfare centre. If your counsellor thinks you need clinical care, they will tell you and suggest local services.
Claims and reimbursement. Sessions can't be claimed through National Health Insurance, employee health insurance (shakai hoken), private medical insurance or employer EAPs, and may not qualify for workplace or employer reimbursement. Please check with your employer before booking.
Your choice. Local services are available to you. By booking, you confirm you've chosen an India-based, non-clinical service instead, knowing the points above. Because our counsellors aren't registered locally, local regulators can't take complaints about them. Please bring any concern to us at contact@mantraminds.com.
In an emergency, call 119 or go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital. You can also contact TELL Lifeline (English): call 0800-300-8355 (toll-free) · online chat.
This doesn't affect your rights under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions. See our legal disclosure under that Act.

What is Mantraminds?
Mantraminds is an India-based mental well-being service. It offers online, non-clinical well-being counselling for adults in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, in 23 countries outside India, including Japan.
How much does online counselling with Mantraminds cost in Japan?
¥7,000 per 50-minute session, paid one session at a time. Book at least one day ahead. There are no packages or lock-in.
Can I talk to a counsellor in Hindi from Japan?
Yes. Sessions are offered in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, depending on counsellor availability. Tell us your preferred language when you sign up and we'll match you with a counsellor who speaks it, where we can.
What time are sessions in Japan?
Sessions run during India daytime hours, within each counsellor's own availability. For example, a 1:30 PM India-time session is at 5:00 PM in Tokyo. Your booking page shows every time in your local time. We're not a 24/7 service.
Where can I get free mental health support in Japan?
TELL Lifeline (English): call 0800-300-8355 (toll-free) · online chat (Sat 9am–Mon 11pm continuous; Tue–Thu 9am–11pm; Fri 9am–2am; chat daily from 4pm). In an emergency, call 119. For ongoing care, you can speak to a doctor at a psychiatry (精神科) or psychosomatic medicine (心療内科) clinic, or your local mental health and welfare centre. Our local support page lists more free services.
Is this therapy?
No. Mantraminds provides well-being counselling: support with everyday life challenges, relationships, parenting and change. It isn't diagnosis or treatment of a mental health condition. For that, please see a doctor at a psychiatry (精神科) or psychosomatic medicine (心療内科) clinic, or your local mental health and welfare centre.
Are your counsellors registered in Japan?
No. Our counsellors are qualified in India and provide a non-clinical well-being service. They are not registered in Japan, use only their Indian titles and registrations (always shown with "(India)"), and don't provide psychology or psychotherapy services.
Can I claim it on insurance?
No. All sessions are paid directly.
Where are your counsellors based?
In India. Sessions take place online by secure video during India daytime hours, shown in your local time. We're not a 24/7 service.
How will you contact me?
By email, which is our preferred way to communicate, or through the chat on this website. We also ask for your WhatsApp number when you sign up, and use it only if we need to reach you urgently, for example about your safety or a session that can't go ahead.
Can I book a session for today?
Usually not. Please book at least one day ahead (India time). Same-day sessions are offered only in exceptional cases, if a counsellor happens to be free. If you need support today, see the free services on our local support page. You pay when you book.
Do I have to commit to a set number of sessions?
No. You pay for one session at a time and can stop whenever you like.
What if I join late?
Your session still ends at its scheduled time. If you haven't joined within 15 minutes, it counts as a no-show and isn't refunded. If your counsellor is late, we'll make up the time or give you session credit.
How will the payment appear on my statement?
As MANTRAMINDS. You pay when you book. If you cancel in time, we refund the full amount to your card (your bank decides how quickly it shows). If anything looks wrong, email care@mantraminds.com and we'll sort it out.
Is my information safe?
Yes. Your information is stored securely in India and handled in line with our International Privacy Policy.
Do you offer psychiatry or medication?
No, not for clients outside India.
You don't have to figure it out alone.
