Psychosis

Compassionate psychiatric care, medical management, and psychosocial support for early intervention and recovery.

Overview

Psychosis is a mental health state characterized by a loss of contact with reality. It can manifest as hallucinations (hearing or seeing things that aren't there), delusions (strong, false beliefs), or disorganized speech and behavior. It is a key feature of conditions like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and severe mood disorders.

At Mantraminds, we offer integrated psychiatric care and psychotherapy for early intervention, symptom control, relapse prevention, and comprehensive support for families.

What is Psychosis?

Psychosis is a symptom, not a disease. It refers to a disruption in the brain's processing of information, causing a person to perceive or interpret things differently from those around them. When a person experiences a psychotic episode, their thoughts and perceptions are disturbed, and they may have difficulty recognizing what is real and what is not.

Signs and Symptoms

Common symptoms during a psychotic episode include:

  • Hallucinations: Hearing voices (auditory), seeing things (visual), or feeling sensations that others do not experience.
  • Delusions: Unshakable, false beliefs not shared by others in the same culture (e.g., paranoia, grandeur, persecution).
  • Disorganized thinking: Speech that is difficult to follow, switching topics rapidly, or losing track of thoughts.
  • Negative symptoms: Loss of motivation, social withdrawal, flattened affect (reduced emotional expression), and difficulty planning or executing activities.

Psychosis Treatment & Management

Early intervention is critical for managing psychosis and achieving long-term recovery. Treatment at Mantraminds includes:

Medical Management

Antipsychotic medications prescribed by our experienced psychiatrists are the cornerstone of treatment for psychotic disorders, helping stabilize brain chemistry and reduce active hallucinations and delusions.
