Life in Switzerland

Life in Switzerland can mean high living costs, a permit that shapes your next move, and a new language to learn in a country with four of them. Many people are building careers in technology, finance, life sciences, research or international organisations in Zurich, Basel or Geneva, often with a partner who has paused their own work and family many hours away. Quiet Sundays, long winters and communities where friendships take time to grow can make it lonelier than it looks.

Mantraminds offers a calm, confidential space to talk it through with someone who understands, without having to explain your culture first.

Supporting Indian families across Switzerland

Indian professionals, students and families live across Switzerland, especially around Zurich, Basel, Geneva and Lausanne. Many work in technology, banking and finance, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, research and universities, or with international organisations in Geneva.

What people in Switzerland often talk to us about:

  • settling in, permits and starting over in a new language;
  • pressure at work and long hours in demanding roles;
  • a partner who has put their own career on hold;
  • raising children between Indian and Swiss ways of life;
  • staying close to parents and family back home.

Times that can feel heavier: the first winter, Diwali and family weddings missed from afar, a permit renewal or job change, and when parents in India need care.

Our local support page lists free services in your area.

What our service is — and isn't

Mantraminds offers well-being counselling for adults (18+): support with life's everyday challenges. To keep you safe, we're clear about what we don't offer in Switzerland:

  • No diagnosis or treatment of mental health conditions
  • No psychiatric consultations or medication
  • No sessions for under-18s (we support parents instead)
  • No crisis or emergency care

If our team feels you'd benefit from clinical care, we'll tell you honestly and help you find local services.

Need urgent help?

If you're in crisis or feel unsafe, please don't wait for a session:

  • Emergency: call 144 (ambulance) or 112
  • Die Dargebotene Hand / La Main Tendue / Telefono Amico (in German, French and Italian): Call 143 · chat and email at 143.ch (Day and night)
  • Heart2Heart by 143.ch (in English): Call 0800 143 000 · chat and email at 143.ch/en (Daily 6pm–11pm)

Important information

About our counsellors. Mantraminds is based in India, and we hope to support people wherever they live. Our Well-being Counsellors are qualified and experienced in India, and some hold Indian registrations. Overseas qualifications and registrations do not give anyone registration to practise in Switzerland. Our counsellors are not registered with the Psychology Professions Register (PsyReg) or licensed by any cantonal health authority. When they work with clients in Switzerland, they act only as Well-being Counsellors, not as psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists or medical practitioners.

Not a health service. Our conversations are for everyday life challenges. They are not psychotherapy and don't identify or treat any illness. If you may be unwell, please see your doctor (Hausarzt / médecin de famille) or a licensed psychotherapist.

What this service doesn't provide. Our service is not a Swiss psychology, psychiatry or medical service. It doesn't provide:

  • medical, psychiatric or psychological diagnosis, or diagnostic assessment;
  • treatment of any mental health condition;
  • prescribing, or advice on starting, stopping or changing medication;
  • medical certificates, reports, letters or certificates for legal, insurance, employment, immigration or court purposes;
  • emergency or crisis care.

When to seek care in Switzerland. If you have a diagnosed or suspected mental health condition, symptoms that are significant or getting worse, need medication or medical advice, or are already receiving mental health treatment, please seek or continue care with your GP (Hausärztin/Hausarzt, médecin de famille, medico di famiglia), who can refer you to a psychiatrist or a psychological psychotherapist covered by basic insurance. If your counsellor thinks you need clinical care, they will tell you and suggest local services.

Claims and reimbursement. Sessions can't be claimed through basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG), supplementary insurance (LCA/VVG), or employer schemes such as employee assistance programmes, and may not qualify for workplace or employer reimbursement. Please check with your employer before booking.

Your choice. Local services are available to you. By booking, you confirm you've chosen an India-based, non-clinical service instead, knowing the points above. Because our counsellors aren't registered locally, local regulators can't take complaints about them. Please bring any concern to us at contact@mantraminds.com.

In an emergency, call 144 (ambulance) or 112 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department (Notfall / urgences / pronto soccorso). You can also contact Die Dargebotene Hand / La Main Tendue / Telefono Amico (in German, French and Italian) (call 143 · chat and email at 143.ch).

This doesn't affect any rights you have under Swiss law. Swiss law doesn't give a general right to withdraw from online bookings, so our Cancellation & Refund Policy applies.
