Finding the right support in Switzerland
Mantraminds offers non-clinical well-being counselling. If you need more support than we can offer, such as care from a doctor, a mental health professional or a specialist service, confidential help is available across Switzerland, and the options below are a good place to start.
Prefer English? Heart2Heart (run by Die Dargebotene Hand) listens in English on 0800 143 000, every evening from 6pm to 11pm, and by chat and email at 143.ch. The other services mainly work in German, French and Italian, but it's fine to ask whether someone can speak English with you.
If you are in danger right now
If your life, or someone else's, is at risk, call 144 for an ambulance, or 112.
If you need to talk to someone now:
| Service | How to reach them | When |
|---|---|---|
| Die Dargebotene Hand / La Main Tendue / Telefono Amico (German, French, Italian) | Call 143 · chat and email at 143.ch | Day and night |
| Heart2Heart (in English) | Call 0800 143 000 · chat and email at 143.ch/en | Daily 6pm–11pm |
Getting mental health care
Start with your GP
Your GP (Hausärztin/Hausarzt, médecin de famille, medico di famiglia) is usually the best first step. Ask for an appointment and say you'd like to talk about your mental health. They can listen, look at what's going on and, if it's right for you, refer you to a psychiatrist or a psychological psychotherapist.
Your health insurance
- Basic insurance: since July 2022, basic health insurance can cover psychotherapy with a licensed psychological psychotherapist when a doctor prescribes it.
- Your insurer: your health insurer can explain what your basic and supplementary cover includes.
Specialised support
| If you're dealing with… | Service | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Violence (physical, psychological or sexual, including at home) | Opferhilfe / aide aux victimes | 142 · free · 24/7 |
| Children and young people | Pro Juventute | 147 · free · 24/7 · WhatsApp too |
| Poisoning | Poison information line | 145 |
If you're worried about a child
If a child is in immediate danger, call 117 (police) or 144 (ambulance). Otherwise, you can contact the child and adult protection authority in your area (KESB / APEA). Children and young people can talk to Pro Juventute on 147, day and night.
When you're ready
Getting the right care comes first. When things feel steadier and you'd like support with family, relationships, work or life changes, we'd be glad to hear from you again.
