Diet & Nutrition Counselling
Service Overview
Nutritional Psychiatry explores the profound, bi-directional relationship between our digestive system and our brain — often called the gut-brain axis. Roughly 90% of the body's serotonin and a majority of its dopamine are produced in the gut, meaning what you eat has a direct, measurable influence on mood, focus, anxiety levels, and sleep quality. Chronic inflammation, blood sugar volatility, and an imbalanced gut microbiome are increasingly linked in clinical research to worsened symptoms of depression, anxiety, and brain fog — which is why nutrition is treated at Mantraminds not as an afterthought, but as a core pillar of mental healthcare. Our registered dietitians and nutritionists work in close coordination with your treating psychiatrist or psychologist, so dietary changes are designed to complement — never replace — your clinical treatment plan. We begin with a detailed intake covering your eating patterns, medical history, current medications (some of which affect appetite, weight, and nutrient absorption), and any relationship you may have with food that feels difficult, restrictive, or driven by emotion rather than hunger. From there, we build a realistic, sustainable plan — not a restrictive diet — that fits your lifestyle, cultural food preferences, and budget. We regularly work with individuals managing anxiety-driven appetite loss, depression-related low motivation to cook or eat regularly, emotional and stress eating, PCOS- or thyroid-related weight changes, and the nutritional side-effects of long-term psychiatric medication. Every plan is reviewed and adjusted over follow-up sessions as your mental health, energy levels, and daily routine evolve.
