Finding the right support in the Netherlands

Mantraminds offers non-clinical well-being counselling. If you need more support than we can offer, such as care from a doctor, a mental health professional or a specialist service, free and confidential help is available across the Netherlands, and the options below are a good place to start.

Prefer English? 113 Zelfmoordpreventie has information in English on its website. Other services may work mainly in Dutch, but it's fine to ask whether someone can speak English with you.

If you are in danger right now

If your life, or someone else's, is at risk, call 112.

If you need to talk to someone now:

De Luisterlijn Call 088 0767 000 24/7

Getting mental health care

Start with your huisarts (GP)

Your huisarts is usually the best first step. Ask for an appointment and say you'd like to talk about your mental health. Your GP can listen, look at what's going on and, if it's right for you, arrange support with the practice's mental health worker (POH-GGZ). If you need more, they can refer you to mental health services (GGZ) covered by your basic health insurance.

If you aren't registered with a huisarts yet, it's worth registering with one near your home. Outside surgery hours, evenings and weekends, you can phone your local huisartsenpost (out-of-hours GP service).
